Taking the Bus or Train:
Coming from Shannon Airport: Take a bus to Galway and then make a bus connection to Westport, Co. Mayo
and then the #440 bus connection from Westport to Achill. (There are no trains from Shannon).
Coming from Dublin: Take
the train from Heuston Station (Dublin) to Westport and then take the #440 bus to Achill. Buses from Dublin-Westport are also available (see Bus
Eireann details below).
Coming from Westport, Co. Mayo: Take the #440 bus at 18:10 from Mill Street in Westport to Achill. Get
off the bus just after Dooniver (tell the driver you want to go to The
Valley House and he will let you off a few hundred meters from our entrance,
which is signposted).

Coming from Castlebar, Co. Mayo:
Take the #440 bus from Garvey Way (up hill near the Tesco shopping area
in Castlebar). You will be stopping for a while in Westport and departing
there at 18:10 for Achill. Tell the driver you are going to the Valley
House and that you need to get off at the Valley crossroads. See Bus

Fly to Ireland
West (Knock) Airport from Dublin, London (Stansted & Luton),
Glasgow, East Midlands, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham. You can
hire a car at the airport. Ireland West (Knock) Airport is 85km from
Achill Island. The #440 bus travels from Knock Airport to Achill Island. Click here for the #440 Bus Schedule. Achill Island is connected
to the mainland by a bridge.
There are many more options when flying into
Dublin, Shannon, Kerry and Cork airports - for flight schedules try Ryanair, Aer
Lingus, British Airways, Lufthansa, EasyJet,
Air France etc.

UK: Ryanair flys London (Stansted and Luton), Liverpool, East Midlands

Germany: In summer Ryanair flys from Cologne to Ireland West (Knock).

Road access to Achill Island is via Westport or Castlebar, County Mayo.
Driving from Dublin take the N4 to Longford, then the N5 through to Strokestown, Charlestown,
and on to Castlebar. Take the road to Newport, go through Mulranny village
and onto the R319 to Achill Island (there is a bridge onto the island
at Achill Sound).
Driving from Galway,
take the N84 to Headford, on to Ballinrobe and to Castlebar. Take the
Newport road, go through Mulranny village and the R319 takes you to
Driving from Northern Ireland,
head for Sligo, then take the N17 to Tubbercurry. At Charlestown, take
the N5 to Castlebar. Take the Newport road, on to Mulranny and the R319
from Achill Sound to The Valley House:
- After crossing the bridge onto the island, drive straight through Achill Sound and drive about 5km out the road
to Cashel. (You will pass Ted Lavelle's pub and the TOPAZ petrol station on your right).
Keep going on this road and drive on to Bunnacurry. TURN RIGHT at 'The
Grove' B&B, (road number is L1406 and you will also see a sign for
The Valley House). Stay on this road for 3km, go straight through the
crossroads (The Valley House is signposted here also) - The Valley House entrance is 200m on the right. The house is at the end of a 300m driveway.
While driving around Achill Island
you may find some of the signs do not have the English place names...here
